Ajax and West Ham United FC have reached an agreement on the direct transfer of Edson Álvarez. The defensive midfielder’s contract in Amsterdam ran until June 30, 2025. Ajax and the English club agreed on a transfer fee of € 38 million. That amount can increase to € 41 million through variables.

Álvarez was born on October 24, 1997, in Tlalnepantla de Baz, and transferred from the Mexican Club América in 2019. On August 17, 2019, he made his debut in the first team during the match VVV-Venlo – Ajax: 1-4. The Mexican international played 147 official matches for Ajax 1 and managed to score thirteen goals.

With Ajax, Álvarez won the Eredivisie twice (2021 and 2022) and won the Dutch Cup once (2021).
