Ajax have reached an agreement with Max de Waal and Willem II on the direct transfer of the midfielder to the first division club. De Waal’s contract at Ajax ran until June 30, 2024.
De Waal (Hoorn, January 10, 2002) started Ajax’s youth academy in 2013. He made his debut in professional football on September 16, 2019, in the match Ajax U23 - PSV U23: 2-0. During that match, he scored his first goal. De Waal made 59 appearances for Ajax U23 in total and scored thirteen goals.
In the second half of the 2021/2022 season, De Waal was on loan to PEC Zwolle. During the last season, the 21-year-old midfielder played on loan for ADO Den Haag.
The preseason campaign has kicked off. Ajax opened their preparations for the new season on Saturday with a match against FC Den Bosch. There was a completely different Ajax team on the field in each half. After trailing 0-2, the Ajax players managed to equalize through Gabriel Misehouy and David Kalokoh, bringing the score level.
