Ajax beats AEK and secures a place in European football after the winter

Ajax overwinters in Europe. In the Johan Cruijff ArenA, the Amsterdam squad earned a 3-1 victory against AEK Athens. With the three points, Ajax overtakes the Greeks in their UEFA Europa League group. Third place in the group means a place in the Conference League.

John van 't Schip's team took the lead early in the match with an effective header from Chuba Akpom. Ajax couldn't enjoy the opening goal for very long. The equaliser came from Levi Garcia within five minutes. He headed a free kick into the far corner.

In the first half, Ajax gave little away and Kenneth Taylor even put Ajax into the lead. After a well-anticipated pass from Hato, his diagonal shot went in.

In the second half, Akpom gave Ajax a safe lead with 3-1. After his second goal, the Englishman had several more opportunities to score a fourth for Ajax, but it remained 3-1.
