Last season, the two sides faced each other in the final of the Dutch Cup. Ajax won 2-1 late in the closing stages of the game thanks to a goal from David Neres.

Erik ten Hag could hardly suppress a smile afterwards. He saw a joyful Ajax against Vitesse. ''I think the players enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed it and I think the supporters enjoyed it too.''

Even after they built up a 4-0 lead, Ajax kept chasing more goals. ''This is the energy you want to see from the team,'' said the coach. ''We were very sharp. We were set up to defend well when we had the ball and were immediately on top of it when we lost it. I hope we can continue this. We want to be fighting in three competitions for as long as possible.''
