In his hundredth Eredivisie home game as the coach at Ajax, Erik Ten Hag chose Noussair Mazraoui for the starting XI at the expense of Devyne Rensch. With Davy Klaassen and Steven Berghuis in midfield, Ryan Gravenberch, who had recently recovered from injury, had to start on the bench.
Ajax struggled with FC Twente in the first twenty minutes, before turning the screw and taking the game to another level. Despite a handful of opportunities, it was only 1-0 at the half thanks to a goal from Davy 'Mister 1-0' Klaassen.
In the second half, Haller took over, scoring the 2-0, 4-0 and 5-0. The other goal (3-0) was an own goal by Twente defender Robin Pröpper.
