Akpom arrived at the Johan Cruijff ArenA this week to smooth out everything. "I'm happy to sign, definitely. Ajax is a top club with lots of history. It didn't take long for me to decide. A special club, and I'm happy to be here", were the attacker's first words when he exited the car on the ArenA deck.
After that, the new number ten was escorted in. He underwent his medical checks with a smile from ear to ear. While on the treatment table, Akpom briefly touched upon how his deal happened. "It was a pretty fast deal. There were some other clubs as well, but as soon as Ajax came, I had my mind sorted", the brand-new Ajax player says.
After his medical check, Akpom was handed Ajax’s holy white-red-white shirt and third shirt. The Brit reacted enthusiastically. "The kit looks very nice, stylish. It definitely fits me. I both like them", the attacker said, who will take on Dusan Tadic’s number ten. "It's an honour, number 10."
Finally, the Ajax signing got a tour of the ArenA, where he saw the dressing room and the stadium from the inside. Akpom was amazed. "The changing room is very nice. It’s different because you can see the quality, you know", the 27-year-old Ajax player stated. He was full of praise about the stadium too. "Sick man. I'm just imagining it, you know… fully packed. I do like the goals the most. The goals are always my favourite thing because of scoring."
Akpom will take the number ten from Tadic. These ten players were the last to wear the special number in Amsterdam service: Tadic, Hakim Ziyech, Davy Klaassen, Siem de Jong, Miralem Sulejmani, Albert Luque, Wesley Sneijder, Steven Pienaar, Rafael van der Vaart, and Richard Knopper.
