On Monday, Steven Berghuis finalized his transfer from Feyenoord to Ajax. He was welcomed by the director Edwin van der Saar and was given a small tour of the Johan Cruijff ArenA. “It feels good to be here,” Berghuis said.

"It hasn't really hit me yet, but I think that's normal. I'm really looking forward to it. I knew that I wanted to take on a new challenge in order to continue to develop as a footballer."

"When Ajax’s interest became concrete, I started to think about it, and I came to the conclusion that this would be a good step for me to develop as a player, as well as a chance to work with the club and my new teammates to achieve their ambitions, which also match my own. That is what I wanted to do and I stand by my decision."

Making the switch from Feyenoord to Ajax is not the easiest step a footballer can take, though. "Nevertheless, I did not hesitate, I made a well-considered choice after having thought about it carefully. It's not a simple step, but I stand by it and it's a good challenge. That’s how I want to think about it and how I can be successful with this club."

"What else can I say? It’s always hard to talk about yourself. The truth comes out on the pitch. I’ll try to play the way I always have, to focus on efficiency and creativity. I always look for the solution to advance the ball. In the coming years I want to win as many trophies as possible. Ultimately, you want to compete with the very best and that’s possible here, in the UEFA Champions League. I hope to show what I can do in that competition as well."

"The trainer expects me to bring my game to Ajax and be myself. In the short term, my goal is to let everything sink in, feel good, get used to things here and be myself and perform on the pitch as quickly as possible. Now, I’m looking forward to being on the pitch with my new teammates the most, getting to know them and fulfilling our ambitions."

Ajax and adidas present new Home jersey 2021/2022: old logo back on the shirt

In a Johan Cruyff Arena with no fans for almost the entire season, the ‘old logo’ was one of the few spectators at the Ajax home games. The impressive banner, handmade by the fans, could be found behind the goal week by week – in the stands that usually are the epicenter of a roaring Johan Cruyff ArenA. After such an unreal season, this historical logo will be back on the home jersey, in what is a one-off tribute to the fans. This logo does not contain the championship stars, like that was also not the case back in the days. The three stars do show as a neck detail, with a subtle addition of the three Andreas crosses.
