The team kicked off training with a pass and move exercise on a perfect surface that had just been watered. The Ajax internationals, who have just returned, were a big presence on the pitch. Bergwijn, meanwhile, showed he could adapt seamlessly to the high training level at the club.
After the first exercise, rondos followed. On the adjacent pitch, the keepers completed their own session under the guidance of trainer Anton Scheutjens. Amongst the players, Richard Witschge and Michael Reiziger led the drills. Head coach Alfred Schreuder looked on with satisfaction and led talks during the large group discussions.
After such a chat between the trainers and players, the keepers and outfield players were put together and a large positional play game followed as the final exercise of the session. Antony was not yet completely fit, but took part in some of the group training.
And while almost everyone went to the changing rooms and had lunch, Ajax captain Dusan Tadic stayed behind on the training pitch for a while. With the ball at his foot, he ran several sprints, before joining his teammates at de Toekomst’s canteen for a well-deserved meal.
