Ajax played a European away match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night. The Amsterdammers lost 2-0 in England. "Brighton was a unique opponent. The entire Premier League is struggling with Brighton's style of play, so we chose to play a bit lower down the pitch. The distances between them were smaller, so that does offer something to work on for Sunday," Maduro said the day after the UEFA Europa League group match.
Too sloppy
Yet the interim coach also saw plenty of areas for improvement. "Offensively, we were not good enough. We kept defending because we were simply too sloppy. We need to be calmer on the ball, but you need guts to play forward. When you get results, the guts come back. Therefore, we have to be positive and show what we did well to the players", Maduro said.
PSV away
Maduro plans to travel to Eindhoven with a different battle plan. "It makes sense for us to do something different because PSV is a different team. PSV play a bit more 'Dutch' football. They are an attacking team, who want to solve everything football-wise. Countering could then be a logical solution."
"PSV is a good team that is in form. We have to have good team discipline again and have confidence that we can win. We did everything we could to prepare the team well. We are working well together and trying to help Ajax at the moment," the interim coach continued.
