Sosa was born on January 21, 1998 in Zagreb, Croatia. He discovered his love for football in the Croatian capital. As a young boy, he took his first steps on the pitch of Dinamo Zagreb: the same club fellow countryman Josip Šutalo left this summer to start an adventure at Ajax.
Ten years after
As a seven-year-old boy, Sosa wore the Zagreb shirt for the first time. After following the entire youth academy, ten years after he took his first footsteps at the club, he debuted in Dinamo Zagreb’s first team. The left-back played the full ninety minutes in the derby against NK Zabreg. Sosa and his teammates won 2-0.
In four seasons at Dinamo Zagreb, he played 41 matches in which he gave six assists. In the meantime, he won three league titles and two national Cups with record champion of Croatia.
His fabulous kicking technique secured him a transfer to VfB Stuttgart in 2018. At the German football club, Sosa worked together with the current Director of Football, Sven Mislintat. During a conversation held by the two, the left-back said that David Beckham was his role model. During Sosa’s presentation in Stuttgart, Mislintat added that he thought the left-back had similar qualities. That started the comparison with the English superstar in the Bundesliga.
"He can assist from every angle: sometimes chipped, sometimes drilled, sometimes flat, sometimes to the back, sometimes to the first post, sometimes to the second. His left foot is a true weapon."
His technique was visible in his fine statistics, especially in his third season in Germany (2020/2021). In 26 matches, he gave ten assists. Sosa also delivered in the years after that. The back gave eight assists in the 2021/2022 season. In 2022/2023, he gave seven assists that led to a goal. Sosa played 115 matches for VfB Stuttgart and gave 35 assists that led to a goal.
World Cup
The back debuted in the Croatian national team exactly three years ago (September 1, 2021). He’s currently at fourteen caps for the number six of the FIFA ranking. Sosa played for Croatia during the World Cup in Qatar in December and ended in third place. He played all the matches in the group stage for the full ninety minutes. He missed the match in the round of sixteen against Japan but joined his team against Brazil and Argentina.
After signing the Croatian left-back, Ajax has one more experienced defender. Besides Šutalo and Medić, the 25-year-old back in the third Croat in Amsterdam service. Dobrodošli, Borna!
