Steijn is bummed out by the final score one day after the 1-1 draw in Athens. "It's a shame we did not convincingly go for the victory after taking the lead. This team needs a victory. I have seen a team that created chances and stood tall in this pandemonium. That gives me a good feeling. But I am critical and can see that we are not there yet."
Victory
There are more than enough points of improvement, according to Steijn. "We were messy a few times in the build-up of the attack, which made our opponent stronger. It looked insecure, and we gave away the ball too easily. We also conceded a lot of shots. It's getting better, but it's not good enough. It starts with communication; you can prevent a lot with that. We have to grow in that. I hope we will achieve a victory soon."
Steijn notices the team is getting closer to each other. "In Greece, I saw fewer groups than at the start of the season. It has to grow, and it's becoming a unity more and more. You can see that on the pitch."
AZ at home
Sunday at 14:30, AZ will visit the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The team from Alkmaar is unbeaten this season. "I expect an open match. They are in great shape and have been at the top for years. We are still building the team and making progress every week. Everyone came out of the match unharmed, and I expect a combative Ajax."
Statement Ajax and local authorities Amsterdam
Ajax and 'De Driehoek' (a collaboration of the mayor, chief officer and police chief) have evaluated the events surrounding Ajax - Feyenoord. They have agreed that supporters are allowed to show their dissatisfaction, but violence and disturbances can never be acceptable parts of that.
