Ajax’s Supervisory Board (SB) nominate Jan van Halst as a new member of the board. This is a nomination for a term lasting three and a half years, until the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November 2026. The nomination has the support of the Works Council of AFC Ajax NV and the Ajax Association as major shareholder.

Jan van Halst (April 20, 1969) played for Ajax, FC Twente, Vitesse, and FC Utecht during his professional football career. During his time in Amsterdam, he won the league title and Dutch Cup in the 2001/2002 season. After his football career, Van Halst had management and board positions at FC Twente and was the commercial director for sports marketing agency SportFive. The former midfielder is co-owner of training and coaching company Be Robin and a football analyst at Ziggo Sport.

Van Halst’s nomination will be decided during the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGM), which will be held at 14.30 on Friday, May 26th, 2023 in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. During this EGM, commissioner Peter Mensing will step down. Mensing joined Ajax’s SB in April 2016. He was reappointed for a new term in November 2019. Mensing announced he would step down the moment the so-called “football commissioner” would be appointed.

Steffie van der Meijden from Nijmegen was crowned Teacher of the Year in special education. Together with her students, they were invited by Maurits Hendriks and Dusan Tadic to come to Amsterdam. They got a special visit from the duo and a tour through the Johan Cruyff ArenA, which resulted in a heartwarming video.
