After falling behind rapidly in the second half, it looked like Ajax would equalise with a goal from Klaassen. His goal was disallowed because Brian Bobbey was a couple of centimetres offside on his run towards the goal. "Yep, unlucky", said Klaassen.
The players celebrated 2-2 because no-one realised that the offside preceded the goal at that time. "It's disappointing. Then the whistle went. What's right is right though."
Ten Hag commented further on the two quick goals from PSV straight after half time. "Lots of things went wrong. We didn't execute properly on the free kick at 1-1. At 2-1 we just handed over a ball. After that we defended very poorly against Cody Gakpo. That just can't happen."
The coach didn't want to leave it there though. "We scored a couple of good goals ourselves, however two were disallowed unfortunately. Until we started taking a lot of risks, we didn't allow them any space. So it's really annoying that we are standing here with nothing to show for it."
'Another five finals to go'
Even though Ajax missed out on the cup, a big prize still remains: the national title. "It's difficult to think about it now. This will stay in my mind for a couple of days", Klaassen said. "But we need to move on, and we really want that top prize."
"We're going to get past it", added Ten Hag. "We now have five finals to go. We need to pick ourselves up and stay calm. But we need to take the lessons from today's match on board."
