The Ajax player places his hand on his heart. "We all have talent, otherwise we wouldn't be playing for Ajax. That much is clear, but I know I could do better. I could be a great player for Ajax, but the team has to develop a set of reflexes," said Van den Boomen. "It's hard work connecting with the other players."
Just like Van den Boomen, Maurice Steijn was also less than happy following the match against Fortuna Sittard. "We still have much work to do," was the manager's conclusion. "It's clear the team are not yet all tuned in to one other. We haven't had the chance to train together yet. Time will tell if the quality is good enough."
In front of the cameras, Steijn was challenged with a negative statistic. Ajax players made 88 weak passes during the game. "That's where we should start. You can see some of the players were not happy. Most of the simple stuff didn't work out well, so it's clear we still have some way to go."
