Van den Boomen was on the pitch when the match was interrupted. ''I was focusing on the game and that was all I was thinking about. The score was a bit tragic, and not being able to finish the match is annoying, and for the supporters too. A terrible situation.”
The atmosphere back in the Amsterdam team's dressing room was very negative once the game was finally called off. ''Everyone felt let down, and we are partly to blame for the situation. If we had played better on the pitch it wouldn't have happened. And that hurts.”
''I felt the match was going quite well for us, even after falling 1-0 behind,” continues the Ajax player. ''We had some great opportunities, but individually we made mistakes. That's all been talked about. Now we have to look to the future and find a way to play better.” I want to get back on it and play as well as I can. I felt the same after the second and third goals. It's hard, but I want to move forward.”
The rest of the match will be played Wednesday afternoon in an empty Johan Cruyff ArenA. ''Having nobody there is a bit odd, and not so much fun for everyone. It's still Ajax versus Feyenoord though, and there's plenty of match time left. It's down to us to go all out and see what we can still do. We have something to put right. We need a lift. That begins Wednesday and then we move on to Saturday. I hope we can do that together as a team, and that's where our full attention should be.”
