Going into the international break, Ajax was plagued by multiple injuries. Van 't Schip gave an update about the injuries list on Friday. "Some are fit, some are doubtful. Bergwijn and Berghuis are doing fine, while Ahmetcan Kaplan and Silvano Vos will play for Ajax U23 Friday evening. Doubt surrounds Šutalo and Brobbey though. We'll just have to see how it goes."
Debut Dutch squad
Van 't Schip said the international break had been a chance to calm down. "I've been having a tricky time of it, so this was beneficial," said the manager, who got to see his players in action. "I got to watch Jorrel (Hato, ed.), to name but one. It's amazing to be making your debut for the Dutch squad at such a young age. He's rock steady, fit and focused. I had some great feedback from the national team manager."
Vitesse at home
Vitesse are visiting the Johan Cruyff ArenA Saturday evening. Van 't Schip has confidence in his team. "This squad is coming out of a tricky period, confidence was very low. So winning is important, and how we get there is even more important," said the Amsterdam manager, who also had some critical remarks. “I'm never fully satisfied, but I think the lads are handling it well and understand where we want to go. You just have to hope all the pieces come together."
Van 't Schip sees Vitesse at home as a 'must-win' match. "Really, that should always be the starting point for Ajax. The weather's changed, but we have to rack up some points as soon as possible so we finish as high up the league as possible."
