Charlie started at Ajax U9 and has moved up step by step. The talented goalkeeper is now active in Ajax U23 and trains along with the first team weekly. After the 2021/2022 season, the Ajax player was chosen as the greatest talent of the youth academy and received the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy.

To many Ajax fans, the name ‘Setford’ does not sound like a new last name in the youth academy anymore. While Charlie regularly plays for Ajax U23, his younger brother Tommy is pursuing his career at Ajax U18. Born in Haarlem, the goalkeeper slowly followed in his brother’s footsteps and represented England’s U17 team during the World Cup in Indonesia.
Ajax and Charlie Setford have reached an agreement on the extension of his contract, which ran until June 30, 2023. The new contract of the 19-year-old goalkeeper will run until June 30, 2027.
